Remarks: My father followed the rush to the mines in 1851. He settled in San Francisco. The following year and sent for my mother and myself to join him here. We came in company with Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oakley. Our first home in this city was located on Folsom Street between Harris and Price, or as it is called, 7th and 8th. I was quite young at that time, but distinctly remember the long weeks we used to take on the Turnpike road, Folsom St, to reach the centre of town. There was not more than six houses on our street and no houses west of us except those located at the Mission Dolores. I have lived in San Francisco the greater part of my life and obtained my education in the public schools. I graduated from the Girls High School in 1870. I am a thorough Californian and am proud of my adopted State.
