Remarks: I was married at the age of 18 to William A. Upp, Grandson of Mrs. Margaret J. Wheeland, member of Pioneer Women of California. at 20 yrs. I accompanied Mrs. Wheeland every month to the meetings. Many pioneer Ladies had dinner with us in our home. I loved them all.

Remarks: My Grand Father Wm. H. Stephens was a pioneer settler, or one of the early settlers in Grass Valley, around the year 1851 or 1852. He raised a Family of 7 Girls. There was a son who was the oldest, who passed away as an infant, making a family of 8. My Grand Mother Mary Stevens passed away in Grass Valley in 1904. My Grand Father was Wm. H Stephens, passed away in 1908. I am enclosing here with photostat copy of christening dates of my Mother Julee and her Sister. (The Boy is omitted from the list), who would have been the first and also the Aunt. My namesake Lydia Stephens as I neglected asking for these at the time I wrote for the information. I am only enclosing this paper to prove the year my Grandfather’s araval at Grass Valley. Should you not require this paper you may return to me.

Remarks: My Grandparents arrived in Sacramento in the Spring (James W. Bell and [illegible] Dickenson). San Francisco and Settled, having many acres in the Mission. They finally traded for a large Ranch in San Mateo, afterward called Bellvale Grand because on my Father’s side were John and Mary Sears. Settled in San Mateo were in the Hotel business place called Searsville after them. Finally settled in La Honda, San Mateo.
